This was the second time the Ghia was entered in the car show. At the previous Bug-In I had lost out to Roger Grago, but not by much. I helped out with the car show again, but overheard a lot of comments on the Ghia. Everyone was oohing and aahing over it and saying how cool the car looked. I had taken the advice of my fellow club members and installed the Porsche alloys on it. I asked Bob Lilligard to help me locate some 14" alloys. He came through for me and found a set for $500. I bought the wheels and took them to the polisher. When I went to pick them up they told me the wheels had been stolen. What?? They reimbursed the money, but I was wondering if I would be able to find another set. I was lucky enough to find another set through Auto Trader. I took them back to the shop and this time when I went to pick them up, they were there. I took them home, detailed them, and installed them on the car. The Ghia won two trophies; Best of Show and 1st place in the Ghia class. The Ghia also won the title "America's Most Beautiful Volkswagen". I also received a $100 check. I still have the stub from that check.
